Figure Drawing

Gesture Drawing

(clothed model)

Wednesday 7:00 - 8:45pm, Sliding Scale Pricing** (ages 15+)

Gesture Drawing is when we focus on capturing the large movement or "gesture" of a pose rather than attempting to accurately represent every detail of the figure. In this class models will be clothed and moving from pose to pose often. There is no formal instruction for this session, though the instructor will be available to provide guidance as needed. Come and enjoy this fun, fast-moving drawing practice and improve your drawing agility.

  • Attendees must pre-register to attend to ensure there is enough space as we can only accommodate 7 in the room.

  • All attendees must agree to and sign a code of conduct for figure drawing classes.

  • You are welcome to bring whatever materials you prefer

  • As space is limited, we cannot offer chairs to all individuals. Some standing easels will be  provided and accommodations can be made for individual needs.

** These sessions are sponsored by a grant from the Bloomington Arts Commission and the reduced cost reflects that generous gift.

Extended Pose Figure Drawing

(Clothed model)
Monthly on the Second Saturday, 12:30 - 3:30pm, Sliding Scale Pricing,** (ages 15+*)

Extended Pose sessions have a model in the same pose throughout the three-hour class. This allows for a more thorough study of the form. These sessions will feature a costumed model styled or designed in historical costume, cosplay, or featuring local actors/performers.  We are working with our community to provide not only a wonderful drawing resource, but. a cross-pollination of the art community and drawing sets that invite individuals to make it their own.

  • Attendees must pre-register to reserve their spot.

  • All attendees must agree to and sign a code of conduct for figure drawing classes.

  • You are welcome to bring whatever materials you prefer

  • As space is limited, we cannot offer chairs to all individuals. Some standing easels will be  provided and accommodations can be made for individual needs.

*For younger students, they must be able to focus and be non-disruptive to the drawing environment. The age is a guideline, but individual students vary in their readiness. Please evaluate accordingly and/or have a parent/guardian attend with teens and preteens to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

** These sessions are sponsored by a grant from the Bloomington Arts Commission and the reduced cost reflects that generous gift.

For figure drawing classes, students may register on a weekly basis. If the class doesn’t reach a minimum of two attendees, it will not carry. Payment is expected upon registration.  Any students who need alternate arrangement are encouraged to reach out to the instructor via email so we can accommodate your needs.
